Modern Scandinavian Lounge Chairs with Tapered Feet, Scandinavia ca 1950s

Through decades of changes in styles and preferences, the various iterations of what has come to be called Scandinavian Modern have managed to go on “speaking” to users, collectors, and design aficionados in rapidly changing cultures. Designed in the golden age of what we know today as mid-century modern, these lounge chairs are delicacies with a unique look. With a classic shape paired with modern design elements, the design combines the best aesthetic characteristics of the 1950s. The large, enveloping backrests dictate the shape of the chairs, as they visually form most of the structure. The edges curve outwards and the backs have a unique shape that resembles a fan. These curves create an inviting and open look, enhanced by the soft upholstery and the decorative button tufting. The large seats add a lot of volume to the design, keeping it grounded, therefore cosy. The sculpted conical legs are a pleasant touch, adding straight lines to the otherwise round edges. The warm brown colour of the wood nicely contrasts to the soft, light colour of the body, not to mention that wooden feet make a long-lasting, rock solid foundation for any chair. Master cabinetmakers were highly aware of body proportions, prioritizing comfort just as much as the visual qualities, therefore these lounge chairs provide ample support for the back and great sitting comfort.

Condition:
In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. Small scratches and marks on the wood. The chairs have been reupholstered recently in a premium fabric. Each of our items can be re-upholstered by our in-house atelier in a fabric of choice. Please reach out for more information.
