Description
Neko — cat in Japanese — takes its name and spirit from a chance encounter in a ceramic studio in Japan, where a cat at rest inspired this marriage of structural architecture and gentle whimsy.
Two hand-cut aluminum sheets intersect to form the frame: arched openings at the base, a tall flat panel rising as the back, all finished in brushed metal with a cool, matte presence. Cradled within is a seat and backrest formed from a single continuous piece of fine French leather, its contour sweeping organically from a wide, rounded seat into a gently curved back. The leather's warm honey tone and supple surface play in deliberate counterpoint to the precision of the metal.
From the underside of the seat, French leather tassels each threaded on a leather cord and finished with a hand-fired raku ceramic bead hang freely, swaying with the slightest movement. It is exactly this spirit: something serious made light, something architectural made alive.
Neko is an open edition work, hand-fabricated with slight natural variation in each ceramic element.
Seat Height : 16 inches -
