Description
This lovely Nupe stool from the 20th century is entirely hand carved from a single piece of wood, and embodies a harmonious blend of intricate patterns, natural beauty, and craftsmanship, making it a perfect accent piece for both modern and traditional interior settings.
In the professional field of interior design, certain pieces and types of furniture hold a timeless allure, effortlessly weaving together functionality, aesthetic appeal, and a rich history. Among these treasures is the simple, way too often overlooked, but extremely versatile stool. At the heart of this stool's charm lies its exquisite woodwork and impeccable quality. The wood is skilfully arranged to form a rounded and flowy design, showcasing the craftsmanship of the Nupe people of Nigeria. As a variation on the traditional six or eight leg design, this piece features four legs supporting a square base with rounded edges. Resting atop the base is a generously padded upholstered seat, which provides warmth and texture to enhance comfort, making this stool as pleasant to use as it is to admire. The plush, organic feel of the upholstery also complements the warm-toned wood below, creating a harmonious contrast between material and form. The design makes this stool stand out with an elemental edge. The colour palette further allows it to easily adapt to almost any interior to either complement a space, or to stand as an accent piece.
The Nupe stool’s enduring appeal lies in its ability to bridge the gap between the past and present, paying homage to traditional handmade design while adapting to the needs of today's interiors. Wooden stools like this one are truly one of the most practical and stylish additions one can make to any room.
