ONE OF THE PAIR OF JAMES BEEKMAN FAMILY CLASSICAL SOFAS
Made by John Banks, Beekman Street, New York City, 1819-1820
One Sofa and Eight Chairs Upholstered by William Denny, New York City
Primary Wood: Mahogany
Secondary Wood: Tulip, Ash

Depth: 27 inches (green)
Provenance: James Beekman, Jr. by descent through the Beekman family until acquired by our firm.
Exhibited: The suite was formerly on loan to the New York Historical Society.
Reference: Two chairs from this suite of two sofas and sixteen chairs are pictured in Esther Singleton, Furniture of our Forefathers, on the plate opposite page 282 and discussed on pages 289-290. One of the sofas is pictured on the frontispiece of Part IV.
