Painted Farmhouse Corner Bench

$ 15,500
  • Description
    A hand-painted late 19th century Hungarian corner bench. The bench is crafted in a corner‑settle form, built from solid wood and finished in a deep, traditional blue‑green ground. Its surfaces are richly decorated with hand‑painted floral motifs in vivid reds, greens, yellows, and soft blues — the kind of stylized tulips and blossoms characteristic of regional village craftsmanship. Across the two back panels are inscriptions for Csapó, Sándor, Keserü and Erzsébet, and the date 1899. The lettering is executed in the same folk‑art style as the floral decoration. The seat shows gentle wear consistent with age. The overall form is rustic and charming: straight plank backs, shaped ends, and a sturdy seat designed for everyday use in a farmhouse kitchen or entry hall. This is a beautifully preserved example of late 19th century Central European folk furniture.
    Dimensions: Longer side: 87 1/2"; other side 75"; depth: 14"; height: 38"; seat height: 15"
