Pair 1972 Jan Bocan Czech Embassy Chairs, Thonet (TON)

Sold Sold
  • Description
The Czechoslovak Embassy in Stockholm was completed in 1972 in the modernist/brutalist style by the architect firm of Bocan, Rothbauer and Šrámek. Jan Bocan won the competition for creating the signature furniture pieces and designed this chair for the conference hall of about 40 pieces. Production was completed at Michael Thonet’s former factories in the Czech Republic – then State Owned under the name TON (Bent Furniture Factory). A single bentwood piece extends from the floor through to the supporting arm on each side and a second to create the tubular design for the back. Recently upholstered in blue wool. Modern design at its striking best.
