Description
This pair of upholstered club chairs beautifully exemplifies the balance of tradition and forward-thinking design that characterised the first half of the 20th century. Unlike designs from outside the continent, European pieces weren’t flashy but rather well-made to fit a warm, comfortable and welcoming interior.
Club chairs, often recognised by their deep, rounded backs and wide armrests, originated in French men’s clubs in the early 20th century. They were created for cosiness and relaxation, typically featuring full-body upholstery and sturdy frames that allowed club members to enjoy sitting for extended periods of time. This pair of club chairs reflect its rich history by embodying the opulence and artistry of its design movement, while simultaneously pursuing comfort. These chairs feature a strikingly voluptuous body, combining both comfort and bold aesthetics. The chairs’ plushness and generously rounded arms provide an inviting and enveloping seating experience. The low, wide seats emphasize a relaxed posture, making them perfect for lounging and unwinding. The upholstery is a beautiful striped blue and off-white fabric that can create a sophisticated contrast against its surroundings, adding a pop of colour while maintaining a versatile appeal. Crafted with exceptional attention to detail, these club chairs reflect the European design ethos of the mid-century, focusing on form and function.
The voluptuous curves and material choice make this a striking pair that effortlessly elevates any space, be it a chic apartment or a refined lounge. Their elegance continues to captivate those who appreciate the artistic and functional values of this period in design history.
