Pair of Dark Green Upholstered Armchairs, Scandinavia 1950s

$ 9,453
  • Description
    Scandinavian mid-century furniture design is celebrated for its elegance, functional forms, and fine craftsmanship. After WWII, design focus moved from the stylised geometry and glamour of Art Deco, towards the clean lines, organic shapes, and straightforwardness of the mid-century modern movement. Today, the mid-century modern style remains influential, prized for its understated elegance and ability to complement modern interiors with a touch of classic sophistication. This pair of mid-century Scandinavian armchairs are a beautiful reflection of the era, showcasing the perfect balance between subtle intrigue and a traditional look.

    The defining trait of this pair of chairs is the rounded feel offered by the curves masterfully integrated in the design. The backrest is adorned with seven tufted buttons, arranged in two gracefully spaced out rows that add dimension and texture, subtly highlighting the chair’s refined curvature. This tufting detail not only adds visual interest but also highlights the plush, full look of the chairs’ bodies. Each chair is finished with rounded, rolled armrests that further enhance the curvature of the silhouette. The rich green fabric complements the look by adding a pop of colour, while creating an inviting, cosy look which maintains the understated elegance typical of the era. Adding a touch of unique charm, the chairs’ designer strayed away from the typical rectangular wooden legs, and instead opted for spherical wooden legs to serve as the front rests of the chairs. These have the power to complete the impression of an overall rounded shape, while the rectangular back legs offer balance and contrast to the design.

    With an elegantly cosy appearance, these chairs are stylish examples of the soft, curved aesthetic side of European mid-century modernism. They serve as timeless statement pieces that blend effortlessly with both contemporary and traditional interiors, bringing a touch of European charm and refined comfort to your home.
