A pair of Provencal style oak armchairs with woven straw seats, French, 20th century. The chairs combine sturdy oak frames with the traditional rush-and-straw seat weaving of southern France, a marriage of durability and rustic elegance that has kept the form in continuous favor. The straw is in good condition, presenting the even, honeyed tone that suits farmhouse, cottage, and relaxed contemporary interiors alike. Generously scaled with comfortable shaped backs, the pair works as dining end chairs, bedroom chairs, or occasional seating anywhere a note of Provencal warmth is wanted. The oak carries a mellow patina with wear consistent with age and use, and the chairs remain solid and ready for everyday service.
