Description
The 055 Capitol Complex Chair is part of Cassina’s Hommage à Pierre Jeanneret collection. It is the most recognizable in Chandigarh’s Capitol Complex. Similar to the office chair, this armless chair also uses the inverted “V” approach to sidebars. The frame is made of natural oak wood. The back and seat are made of Viennese woven cane.
Partner and cousin to Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret was a visionary of modernist architecture and design. His greatest talent laid in creating functional and strikingly elegant furniture.
In the early 1950s Jeanneret joined his cousin in Chandigarh, India, where they embarked on a massive urban-planning project, laying out the city and designing low-cost buildings and furniture. Though Corbusier abandoned the project halfway through, Jeanneret remained for 15 years as the project’s chief architect. Jeanneret lived and worked there until the final years of his life. The city remains a masterpiece of the modern vision. His residence has since been restored and converted it into a Museum dedicated to his contributions to the city.
Cassina was established in 1927 in the Northern region of Brianza, Italy, an area noted for its skilled artisans and woodworkers. Rooted in high quality Italian craftsmanship Cassina began acquiring licenses to reproduce some of the worlds most well renowned furniture designs. Cassina’s mission is to provide extremely high quality products by paying close attention to every step of the manufacturing process. From woodworking to upholstery, their attention to detail and perfection is unmatched. The incredible quality of materials leads to the most amazing expression of form and function celebrating new design as well as highlighting notable designs of the past. -
