Description
An exceptional and rare set of 12 English Chippendale style armchairs, finely crafted in richly figured mahogany. Each chair features an intricately carved openwork splat back of interlaced ribbon form, framed by a shaped crest rail with detailed foliate carving. The graceful arms terminate in scrolled handrests, while the seats are upholstered for comfort.
The legs are elegantly proportioned, with carved knees and terminating in classic ball-and-claw feet, exemplifying the craftsmanship and stylistic vocabulary associated with the Chippendale tradition. The deep, warm patina of the mahogany enhances the crispness of the carving and lends a sense of depth and character to the set.
Both decorative and functional, this rare suite of twelve chairs is ideally suited for a formal dining setting or grand interior. Alternatively, these would make a beautiful presentation in a law office lobby or conference room.
While the chairs appear to be identical, six chairs weigh less than the others. -
