Description
A rare 2-Seat Sofa from “The King's Furniture” aka the 'Kongemøblerne' collection, manufactured by Botium in the 1970s. Made of oak, with caning on the seat & back and the loose cushions are upholstered in the original natural tan leather. This chair was given to King Frederik IX of Denmark as a birthday present in 1969 after it won the illustrious competition of Copenhagen's Carpenters' Guild. A photo of the King lounging in his new chair brought great fame to the pair, who continued to design fantastic furniture into the early aughts. 46.5" L x 28.75" D x 27.5" H
Fun fact! The library set of the film "Sixteen Candles" is furnished entirely by works of Thygesen & Sørensen!
"Through five decades Johnny Sorensen pushed the limits within esthetics, functionality, coherency and technology, and even though being deeply rooted in the classical Danish cabinet-maker traditions – his curiosity drove him to a continually exploration of new design languages." -
