Description
Designed by Sergio Rodrigues (1927–2014) in the 1960s, the “Marco” chair reflects the designer’s disciplined approach to proportion, structural clarity, and material presence within Brazilian modernism. The model distills Rodrigues’s ability to balance architectural simplicity with the warmth of traditional Brazilian woods.
Each chair is crafted in Brazilian rosewood (jacarandá), whose deep tone and expressive grain anchor the design visually. The frame is composed of clean rectilinear members and slender legs connected by horizontal stretchers, creating a composition defined by structural logic and quiet restraint. This clarity of form allows the richness of the rosewood to remain central to the design.
The seats and backrests have been newly upholstered in beige leather, introducing a soft tonal contrast to the darker wood while maintaining the understated character typical of Rodrigues’ dining furniture from the period.
The wood has been professionally refinished, preserving the natural figure of the jacarandá. The set remains in excellent vintage condition, representing a refined example of Rodrigues’ ability to articulate modern Brazilian design through clarity of form and material integrity. -
