With Two Arms And Six Sides
New York, Circa 1790
Primary Wood: Mahogany
Secondary Wood: Yellow Pine (by microanalysis)
Height: 39 3/4 inches
Width: 22 inches (arm), 20 1/2 inches (side)
Depth: 20 inches (arm), 18 1/2 (side)
Provenance: Mr. and Mrs. Bret Williams, Cleveland, Ohio; to their daughter. The Williams were collecting throughout the 1950’s and 1960’s purchasing many items from the top New York dealers such as Ginsburg & Levy, Israel Sack, Inc., and John Walton, Inc. A tambour desk of theirs appears in Vernon J. Stoneman’s A Supplement to John and Thomas Seymour Cabinetmakers in Boston, 1794-1816, entry 3. -
