Description
The term Swedish Modern first became current in the 1930s, when modern Swedish design was becoming increasingly well known in Europe and the United States. However, it was at its height in the 1950s and was characterised by many of the qualities of Modernism blended with natural materials - such as wood - and a Scandinavian respect for elevated craftsmanship.
This sofa has a lot of character with a welcoming presence that exudes high quality craftsmanship and design. The rounded edges and curves create flowing lines, which are further enhanced by the upholstery’s rich texture and softness. While the body embraces the sitter, the edges curve outwards creating a rim along the back and arms. This curve continues along the bottom of the seat as well, framing the seating cushion visually. Thanks to the interesting and stylish fabric, the upholstery can be considered the main decorative element, with its light colour highlighting the sofa’s curves. The thin tapered legs splay outwards, following the form of the sofa and providing stability and a stylish contrast to the upholstery.
With its cosy aesthetic and material quality, this sofa is truly soulful and timeless. In the absence of any ornamentation, the focus stays on the simple and clean look, supported by the sofa’s functionality and comfort.
