Description
This Gustavian stool was made in Sweden around 1810 in the restrained neoclassical taste of the period. The Gustavian style, the Swedish interpretation of neoclassicism, is reflected in the measured proportions and simple form of the stool. Stools of this kind were compact and portable, used as extra seating or as footstools and moved easily between rooms. The frame carries the painted or aged surface valued in Swedish period furniture. As a single piece, it suits use as a footstool before a chair, as occasional seating in a hall, or at the foot of a bed. Suited to both period and plainer modern interiors, the stool combines practical function with period character. As a Gustavian stool, it offers a portable low seat together with the calm, restrained character of Swedish neoclassical furniture, fitting comfortably into a range of positions within a room.
This is an antique and having been around for a long time, it will show signs of wear. Antique pieces have very much sought-after character and associated flaws. Please review photos for condition & contact us with questions! -
