Description
Mid-century modern is to-the-point and no-nonsense, much like the straightforward interior style, which championed notions of functionality, ease and modern simplicity. This characteristic 1940s winged chair is a great representation of the quality and craftsmanship of Swedish master cabinetmakers, characterized by the best qualities of mid-century design.
From the restrained aesthetic to the elegant pairing of materials, this wingback chair is a stylish delight from the era. The design is focused on the aesthetics of modern design whilst employing the exquisite technique and material familiarity of highly skilled craftsmen such as cabinetmakers. The design in many ways transcends the word ‘modern’, as it can be incorporated into contemporary and traditional interiors, lending itself to a timeless and universal appeal. The elegant and organic lines of the design create an elegant silhouette. At the same time, the crisp lines “disappear” into the soft, wool blend upholstery, resulting in a cosy impression. This is further enhanced by the enveloping back and round armrests for the ultimate lounging experience. The chair’s generous proportions and upholstery provide great sitting comfort, supported by the solid wood tapered legs. The upholstery dominates the look, and in the absence of any ornamentation, the luxurious texture of the material remains in the focus.
The historic movement of mid-century modern continues to permeate our sense of what’s contemporary. With a classic look, storied design and solid quality, this Swedish chair is a truly elegant and timeless piece.
