Description
This is a very rare pair of 't Woonhuys Amsterdam side chairs in very desirable patinated cognac leather, made in the 1920s.
As Holland’s most illustrious furniture company in the early 20th century, ‘t Woonhuys in Amsterdam was famous for their high end bespoke interiors and furniture - best known for the famous pieces by architect and designer Michel de Klerk in ‘Amsterdamse School’ style.
Looking traditional at first sight, these chairs do have a strong and very distinct appearance at second glance. The design of the chairs is very refined and elegant, with the sleek backrest and a sturdy stance, combined with the impressive and large claw feet at the front. Combining hints to various styles, it is not very easy to put an overall style label on these.
The pair of chairs shows a wonderful use of material and a very high end execution. Please take a look at all the details in the wood and the studded and patinated leather upholstery in a wonderful cognac color. Please note that both front and back of the backrest are upholstered in leather.
They come in a wonderful and original condition with a desirable patina. Signed at the base.
