    Depth: 17 1/2 inches

    Provenance: Family history of this chair states that it was part of a set made for New Jersey Governor John Lambert of Lambertville. It descended in the Lambert and Seabrook families. Unfortunately, an alternative provenance put forth in a January, 1948 The Magazine Antiques advertisement on page 32, that the chairs descended in the Custis family and had occupied George Washington's front parlor on High Street, cannot be proven.

    Reference: A single chair from the same set appears in William McPherson Hornor, Jr.'s, Blue Book; Philadelphia Furniture, William Penn to George Washington, plate 163.
