A curved settee in rattan and woven cane, design by Tito Agnoli, manufactured by Bonacina, Italy, 1950s.
What defines this 1950s settee is the plastic potential of the natural material with which it is made—capable of yielding so gracefully to human creativity, as if it were a free pencil stroke on paper. Its curved structure allows the rattan to express its natural elasticity in service of both comfort and conviviality. The crescent-shaped organic design lends itself perfectly to conversation, to receiving guests in the living room, or to enjoying the sunset on a veranda.
The author is Tito Agnoli, the Italian designer who, from seating to lighting, made simplicity and functional clarity the hallmark of his work. As in his other creations, one can recognize here the same approach that animates Agnoli’s most renowned seats: the ambition to ennoble a natural material—once reserved only for outdoor furniture—and to establish it as a protagonist within domestic interiors, both urban and residential.
The settee was produced by Bonacina, the historic Italian manufacturer of rattan and wicker furniture, which collaborated throughout the twentieth century with some of the most important names in Italian design.
It has been professionally restored with full respect for traditional craftsmanship techniques. Cushions of different shapes and colors can be paired with the piece according to the client’s taste.
