Description
This bench or side table model Krobo with a planter box, designed by Torbjørn Afdal and produced by Bruksbo in Norway, is a versatile and elegant piece from the 1960s. The bench features a long, rectangular rosewood surface with raised edges, supported by sturdy legs and a crossbar structure that enhances its stability. The surface of the bench has been carefully crafted to showcase the natural beauty of the rosewood, with a rich patina that highlights its warm tones. The raised edges of the surface add to the piece’s clean lines and minimalist design, making it a perfect fit for various interior styles.
The loose planter box, crafted from the same rosewood, is an integral part of the design. It features a black interior lining, making it ideal for holding plants or serving as decorative storage. The planter box can be easily removed and placed elsewhere, offering functionality and flexibility in use.
Torbjørn Afdal, a prominent Norwegian designer, was known for his refined and practical furniture pieces. His work often combined elegant proportions with high-quality materials, reflecting the principles of Scandinavian modern design. Afdal’s designs gained international recognition, and his collaboration with Bruksbo, a leading Norwegian furniture manufacturer, resulted in pieces that are still highly regarded today. The Krobo bench, with its adaptability and timeless design, became one of his most celebrated pieces, as it could function as a bench, side table, or display surface.
The piece remains in very good vintage condition, with minor signs of use consistent with age. The rosewood surface has been well preserved, retaining its rich color and smooth texture, with only slight wear. The black interior lining of the planter box shows minor signs of use but remains in good condition.
The dimensions of the bench are 150 cm (59.1 inches) in length, 37 cm (14.6 inches) in depth, and 34 cm (13.4 inches) in height. The planter box measures 59.5 cm (23.4 inches) in length, 34.5 cm (13.6 inches) in depth, and 12.5 cm (4.9 inches) in height. This combination of functional design and aesthetic appeal makes the Krobo bench a versatile and timeless addition to any interior.
