The Maralunga sofa, designed by Vico Magistretti for Cassina in 1973, is a classic piece of Italian modernist furniture celebrated for its innovative design and exceptional comfort. Vico Magistretti (1920–2006) was a renowned Italian designer and architect, celebrated for his influential contributions to modern design and furniture. Born in Milan, Magistretti studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano and began his career working in urban planning before transitioning to product design.

Magistretti became known for his innovative approach, blending simplicity, functionality, and elegance. He collaborated with leading Italian design brands, including Cassina, Artemide, and Oluce, creating iconic pieces such as the Maralunga sofa, Eclisse lamp, and Atollo lamp. His work often utilized minimal forms and cutting-edge materials, exemplifying Italian modernism.
