Description
A pair of sculptural icons from the master of movement himself, these rare Vladimir Kagan Hurricane Lounge Chairs, c. 1996, embody the sensual, biomorphic language that made Kagan one of the defining voices of avant-garde American design. Upholstered in a rich Chocolate Bouclé, their forms appear less constructed than discovered — soft, sweeping silhouettes with an almost wind-carved quality that feel simultaneously substantial and weightless. The chairs seem to lean, swell, and curve as though shaped by invisible currents of air. The dramatic negative space beneath each seat further heightens the sense of suspension and fluidity, giving the forms a visual lightness despite their generous scale.
At once futuristic and deeply organic, these chairs strike the balance Kagan pursued throughout his career: furniture that behaves almost like sculpture, but invites you in rather than keeping you at a distance. A study in movement, comfort, and pure form.
The design was later celebrated in The Complete Kagan: Vladimir Kagan: A Lifetime of Avant-Garde Design, featuring a foreword by Tom Ford, further cementing the Hurricane collection within Kagan’s extraordinary design legacy.
