A Warren McArthur armchair from the early to mid-1930s has an anodized aluminum frame. Titled "The Office Manager" in his 1936 furniture catalog and listed as Style No. 1038 AU (arm upholstered) . The chair was manufactured in Rome New York and has a McArthur decal that helps date the chair.
The drop down curved arm supports, the composition of the tubing that forms the rear legs and the graduated placement of the back slats contribute to making this a great design. The chair back is flexible for comfort and is a product of Warren McArthur's early ergonomic studies for the creation of comfortable seating.
These early ergonomic studies were an important element in the design of his revolutionary aircraft and transportation seatings that were the most financially successful products of the Warren McArthur Corporation.
The chair is in good vintage condition with new upholstery, a replaced back slat, a replaced seat cushion and new rubber feet.
