Description
Art Deco seating explored the relationship between bold forms and architectural structure, focusing particularly on upholstered lounge furniture designed for domestic interiors. Rather than relying on excessive ornament, many European makers worked with proportion, colour, and the shaping of frames to create visual presence. This armchair reflects that approach through its silhouette and restrained detailing, where the emphasis falls on the interaction between the wooden outline and the deep upholstery.
The chair is constructed around its solid wooden frame that wraps around the armrests and legs in a soft, flowing line. The structure forms an enveloping shape that gives the piece a cocoon-like appearance. The exposed wood introduces a dark border around the upholstery, sharpening the silhouette and emphasizing the geometry of the curves. Wooden overlays were commonly used in Art Deco furniture to add detail without excess ornament. To contrast the brown tones of the wood, the upholstered body is covered in a richly coloured textile that enhances the fullness of the seat and backrest. The back cushion curves slightly outward at the top, to create a more relaxed posture for the user. The seat is broad and comfortably set within the frame, while the short feet keep the overall volume visually grounded.
The interplay between the wooden outline and the upholstery gives the chair its timeless presence. Its enveloping shape makes it well suited to intimate seating areas, while its Art Deco charm makes it a perfect addition for a range of interiors.
