19th-Century Alpine Painted Cupboard in White and Gray
-
Description
An exquisite 19th-century Alpine cupboard, finely crafted in solid fir wood and retaining its original painted finish in soft ivory and pale gray tones. The piece features gracefully rounded sides, a molded base resting on spherical feet, and a beautifully shaped cymatium crowned with a central rosette and delicate scroll carvings — a hallmark of Alpine craftsmanship. The paneled doors are framed by fluid moldings highlighted in contrasting gray, emphasizing the depth and geometry of the design. The aged paint shows natural oxidation and gentle wear, lending authentic charm and character. Inside are two smaller interior doors, added later, which can be removed to configure the storage space as desired. Complete with original wrought-iron bushings and a later but functional lock, this cupboard embodies both sculptural presence and enduring practicality — an elegant expression of 19th-century mountain craftsmanship.
