19th Century Ebonized Gustavian Style Commode

Price Upon Request
  • Description
A striking 19th century Swedish Gustavian style commode featuring a richly layered ebonized patina with subtle charcoal and graphite undertones. This elegant three-drawer chest is distinguished by its refined neoclassical lines, fluted drawer fronts, and tapered stop-fluted legs, all characteristic of the Gustavian aesthetic inspired by late 18th century Scandinavian interpretations of French Louis XVI design.
The commode retains its original brass escutcheons and ring pulls, beautifully contrasting against the dark matte finish. Each drawer is centered with vertically reeded detailing, adding architectural texture and symmetry to the façade. The molded top with canted front corners and dentil-style carved frieze further elevate the sophisticated silhouette.
The worn painted surface reveals gentle age and authentic patina throughout, giving the piece exceptional depth and character. Its restrained form and dramatic finish make it equally compelling in traditional, transitional, or contemporary interiors.
A highly decorative and versatile Swedish chest suitable for use in a bedroom, entryway, living room, or study.
