19th Century Gustavian Cabinet

$ 11,300
  • Description
    Early 19th Century Swedish Painted Pine Two-Part Cabinet from the Gustavian period.

    Constructed in two separate, stacked sections from hand-planed solid pine, this provincial cupboard features a stepped architectural crown molding over an upper two-door cabinet, set atop a slightly deeper lower cabinet with a molded waist cornice. All four doors are framed with traditional mortise and tenon joinery encasing raised field panels with molded inner borders. Central vertical astragal strips cover the door meets, fitted with hand-forged iron keyhole escutcheons. The cabinet rests on a thick, continuous plinth base. The exterior displays a scraped and weathered blue painted finish over pine, exhibiting extensive historic paint loss, wood grain exposure, and surface oxidation characteristic of 19th-century Swedish Allmoge folk art furniture.
