Description
Rare "Lovö" cabinet in stained pine wood by Axel Einar Hjorth for Nordiska Kompaniet, Stockholm Sweden, 1930s.
Good condition. Key is included.
Stained pine, patinated iron rivets.
Axel Einar Hjorth is widely regarded as one of Sweden's most prominent furniture designers of the 1920s and 1930s.
His major breakthrough came when he assumed the role of chief architect for Nordiska Kompaniet, a position he held from 1927 to 1938. His inaugural major project was the Nordiska Kompaniet's opulent stand at the 1929 World Exhibition in Barcelona, followed by numerous prominent international exhibitions during the subsequent decade. In 1929, Hjorth also broke new ground with the design of the first series of rustic furniture in stained pine, the so-called "sports cabin furniture" named "Lovö," "Utö," and "Sandhamn" after the islands in the Stockholm archipelago. -
