Description
This 19th century grandfather clock is from the Brittany area of France and has stood the test of time very well. Standing about 8ft. tall the clock features a key wound eight day movement driven by two iron weights. The clock strikes the hour and half hour on a bell. The large brass and metal pendulum compensates for temperature variations and helps the clock to be a more accuarte time keeper. The case is carved on its sides and front along with a 7" top piece which is removeable. In front and at the bottom there is a carved panel with a man and woman in a country scene.
France, circa 1870
96" H X 22"W X 12" D
Materials and Techniques: Carved oak, oak, bevelled glass, hammered & painted brass, brass & steel clock movement, pendulum & weights.
