Description
Designed in the 1970s for the Les Arcs ski resort in France, this wall-mounted cabinet exemplifies Charlotte Perriand’s mature approach to functional modernism, shaped by her long-standing dialogue with nature, architecture, and collective living. Conceived as part of an integrated interior system for high-altitude dwellings, the cabinet reflects her belief in essential forms and honest materials.
The cabinet combines solid pine with white lacquered veneered panels and a green laminate top framed by a pine border, achieving a balanced contrast between warmth and precision. Large turned pine knobs emphasize tactility and ease of use, while the interior shelving offers practical storage within a compact architectural volume. Rooted in Perriand’s synthesis of alpine vernacular and Japanese-inspired rationalism, the piece stands as a quiet yet authoritative expression of postwar French design, where furniture becomes an integral extension of living space. -
