A fine quality Chippendale Period Mahogany Secretaire Library Bookcase, the moulded cornice with Greek key pattern and blind fretwork carving above two 13 pane astragal glazed doors opening to 3 adjustable shelves, the base with a fitted secretaire drawer having 9 small drawers one of which has Gothic Arched carved detail around 5 pigeon-holes and a leather lined writing surface all above 3 further full width drawers, the whole raised on well-shaped ogee bracket feet and retaining all the original handles and backplates.

Note: The quality of the mahogany in both its figuring and grain is exceptional and quality of the workmanship throughout is quite extraordinary. The 13 pane astragal glazing to the upper section doors is taken directly from Chippendale’s “The Gentleman & Cabinet-Maker’s Director”, 3rd. edition, Plate XCI dating from 1753
The ogee bracket feet are the same as on the Desk and Bookcase at Plate CVIII
