English Mahogany Large Shop Display Showcase

Dimensions: 70 ¾” H x 82” W x 17 ¼” D

English early 20th century shop display case in a gorgeous marquetry-trimmed mahogany frame with three glass shelves mounted on steel brackets against a fabric lining. The narrow crown is emphasized by a line of marquetry in alternating dark and light woods in a cable twist effect for implied movement as it wraps around the angular (chamfered) corners. Three glass shelves disappear into the fabric lining the case which reads as a beach glass color, slightly faded in abstract patches from blue to celadon which is a lovely complement to the warmth of the mahogany. Decorative pilasters on the front are carved with a slight groove and outlined in painted gilt trim. There is evidence of a track on the top and bottom where there was once a set of sliding doors that have since been removed for easy access and engagement with personal collections of books, porcelain, trophies, and more.
