Description
Dimensions: 42” H x 43 ½” W x 16 ¼” D
This 19th-century French bibliotheque is petite yet stately. It is an exceptional example of the Empire style with its ebonized finish and brass accents. The top of the piece is a smooth single plank of wood with offset, rounded corners and a brass trim. The glass double doors function with their original lock and key, and they open to a velvet-lined interior with two fixed shelves measuring 10 ⅝” deep. The edges of these shelves have a matching ebonized finish and gold pinstriping to tie them in with the rest of the piece. Fluted brass corinthian columns frame the doors and lend a feeling of grandeur to the relatively small scale of the bookcase. Acanthus leaves at the bases of these columns provide more classical imagery, in keeping with the Empire style. A brass border surrounds the top of the base, whose shape mirrors that of the top of the bibliotheque. We believe this to be in good antique condition, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos. Please view the detailed image gallery for the current condition or reach out with any questions. -
