Description
Pair of high-back cabinets by Guido Faleschini for Hermès, Italy, 1970.
The structures are in wood, upholstered with black felt on the inside and black velvet felt on the outside (including the back) and on both sides of the doors.
They open to two wooden doors sheathed on each side, adorned with two polished cast-aluminum rings, held in place by two thick tan leather straps.
The top shelves are in St Anne grey-black marble, edged on the front and back with a chrome-plated metal band.
The base is also protected by a chrome-plated metal plinth, as are the top and bottom edges of the doors.
The sophisticated hinges are in polished aluminum.
Biography
Italian-Swiss designer Guido Faleschini was born in Italy in 1924. He trained as an architect in Milan and received his degree in 1942. He went on to continue his education and received a degree from the Superior School of Art where he was awarded the first place prize at the end of his course. In 1960 he graduated with his Architectural degree from the University “Ateneaum de Lausanne.” Shortly after, he began teaching at the same school as a teacher of Architectonic Composition in the Italian section of the University.
Faleschini was also a devoted painter. From 1950-1968 he won many prizes in painting competitions.
He would go on to work for various notable manufacturer companies including Pace Collection, i4 Mariani and Arflex. His work would go on to be exhibited in international trade shows. He also worked on furnishing private houses and retail stores during this time. His works have been featured in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Guido Faleschini sadly passed away in 1971 at the early at the age of 47. Despite his short time here on earth, he accomplished many feats. He designed and produced incredible works that are to this day, highly sought after and admired by design connoisseurs all around the world. -
