Description
Reminiscent of Danish designer Henning Kjærnulf’s signature style, this grandiose sideboard melds seamlessly with any interior thanks to its elegant proportions and refined use of materials. The oak form is elemental, with the look enhanced by the carvings and details throughout the structure of the piece.
Oak, the primary material of this sideboard, is a durable long-lasting wood that is the perfect canvas for the intricately carved shapes and details to take form. The functional and decorative elements of the design are treated equally, resulting in a stunning yet balanced look. The design features versatile storage solutions, divided into four larger doors with shelves behind them to increase the usable surface area. As a fundamentally functional type of furniture, this cabinet does more than serve its utilitarian purpose. The front is decorated with beautiful square carvings and brass key fittings crafted with the utmost care and attention to detail. Kjærnulf’s pieces generally show great balance between decorative and functional elements, inspiring many cabinetmakers which is evident in the construction of this sideboard. The design primarily aims to serve as storage space, while also being a visual treat. The mixture of round and straight shapes and lines is used masterfully, giving depth to the oak and emphasized by the wood's rich colour. This sideboard is sure to stand out as an accent piece, or complement its surroundings thanks to its natural colour and warm tones.
This well-constructed piece is truly a beautiful example of Danish modernism, complete with a form that still retains some influence from previous art and design movements.
