Description
Crafted in 1942, by Bertil Brisborg, this model "30331" table lamp is a striking example of Scandinavian design. The period was marked by a commitment to functionalism, clean lines, and a nuanced interplay of materials. This piece is undoubtedly a testament to both Bertil Brisborg and Nordiska Kompaniet's commitment to quality and style.
The lamp’s design focuses on practicality while making a subtle but striking aesthetic statement, perfectly capturing the essence of mid-century modern lighting. This lamp’s design is a perfect example of how Swedish designers seamlessly integrated industrial materials with organic shapes, creating unique pieces. Despite its understated design, the lamp is highly functional, offering a soft, diffused light that can be easily incorporated into a variety of settings. The pairing of brass and wood creates an interesting visual effect, along with a lovely colour palette. The wooden body showcases the beautiful natural grain and rich tones of the material. The design is further characterised by its clean, geometric silhouette, with its marked roundness. The shape of the shade almost resembles a mushroom. The popularity of the mushroom-style shade has much to do with the heart-warming light emitted from its undeniably whimsical design; making cramped spaces feel cosy, especially with the brass’s nice warm tone. When turned on, the light casts a warm and inviting glow, creating a timeless and comforting ambience. The lamp is grounded by the round, brass base, which echoes the shade. It’s vintage appeal and enduring style make it a perfect choice for those looking to add a touch of mid-century elegance to their decor.
The Swedish company Nordiska Kompaniet manufactured this lamp with utmost care for its quality and design. The company was among the iconic Swedish lighting manufacturers during the mid-century era, working with some of the most well-known Scandinavian designers - and this rare table lamp is a prime example of the great success these collaborations resulted in.
