Description
A finely crafted Northern Italian four-drawer commode, circa 1920, richly decorated with intricate parquetry and marquetry inlay. The rectangular top and side panels are framed by banded inlaid borders with foliate details enclosing central rosette medallions with a distinctive double-handled urn and four-stem floral motif, characteristic of the refined regional craftsmanship of Northern Italy.
Each of the four long drawer fronts is framed with complementary decorative foliage banding, creating a harmonious rhythm across the façade. The commode is raised on elegant tapering square legs, complementing its restrained yet highly decorative form. The combination of geometric parquetry, floral marquetry, and finely detailed inlay exemplifies the sophisticated cabinetmaking traditions of early 20th-century Italy.
Its compact proportions make it exceptionally versatile. It would serve beautifully as a chest or commode in a bedroom, a handsome storage piece in a living room or library, or an elegant accent chest in an entry hall or smaller hallway. Its richly detailed parquetry and marquetry would make it equally effective beneath a mirror or artwork. -
