Description
Designer: Jean de Merry
USA - Circa Early 21st Century
Dimensions: 36.5" H x 48" W x 17.25" D
Condition: Very good.
The "Diana" cabinet by Jean de Merry is a luxurious piece that epitomizes the grandeur of the Art Deco style, skillfully blending contemporary craftsmanship with historical artistry. This exquisite cabinet features a front facade adorned with a reverse hand-painted scene depicting Diana at the hunt, reminiscent of Jean Dupas's famed reverse-painted mirrors for the SS Normandie.
Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, the cabinet houses three soft-close touch latch drawers, each lined with a gilt wood finish that echoes the opulence of the exterior. The sides of the cabinet are equally impressive, each are covered with six beveled bronze-tinted glass panels set against a gilt wood background, enhancing the depth and richness of the design.
Supporting the structure are four square tapered legs, enveloped in bronze beveled mirrors that catch and reflect light, adding a dynamic visual element. The legs are elegantly capped in antique bronze, complementing the luxurious aesthetic of the whole piece. The corners of the cabinet are also adorned in beveled bronze mirror. Above, the top of the cabinet is inset with bronze-tinted glass that reveals the gilt wood finish beneath, providing a sophisticated surface that's both functional and stunning.
Measuring 36.5 inches in height, 48 inches in width, and 17.25 inches in depth, the "Diana" cabinet was originally priced at $31,000, underscoring its high-end craftsmanship and the exclusivity of its design. This piece is not merely a storage solution but a work of art, offering a contemporary interpretation of the Art Deco style, perfect for any discerning collector or interior where luxury and history are celebrated. -
