Description
Chest of drawers from the second half of the 18th century, created by the well-known cabinetmaker André Antoine Lardin . A high-quality piece with a fantastic and truly exquisite finish. Rosewood and mahogany.
This is a piece of classical furniture, originally Louis XV, with a bombée front of the main body, short cabriolet legs and ormolu bronze fittings of extraordinary quality. These bronze accessories are purely baroque in style, with profuse decoration in the form of stylised acanthus leaves, which open on each side as if they were expanding through each of the drawers of the piece. The marble top is worked and sculpted as if it were a sculpture, with baroque finishes with a mixtilinear profile and a double bevel on the edges. It is rosso levanto marble .
The wavy profile of each of the sides of the piece shows the high degree of mastery of the creator of this chest of drawers: LARDIN. André Antoine Lardin (1794-1790) was a renowned Parisian cabinetmaker of great production.
LARDIN
Lardin obtained his mastery in 1750, when he set up shop on the rue Charenton under the sign " au Bois de Boulogne ".
He worked there until 1770, when he moved to Rue Saint Nicolas. His production was considerable.
His furniture spanned several styles and historical periods (Louis XIV, Regency, Louis XV, Transition, Louis XVI). They are of great beauty, with classical shapes and decorations. Lardin 's distinctive feature was his seal, applied in very large, bold letters to various parts of the same piece of furniture (usually the underside of the marble top or a signature on the wood itself).
