Description
Large Bone-Inlaid Hardwood, Boxwood, and Ebony Chinese Cabinet
Chinese, Early 20th Century
Height 230cm, width 128cm, depth 55cm
Featuring a pierced and carved door panel to the front, which depicts various interior scenes, and set among rich, elaborate ornate floral scrolling work, this excellent piece is a large antique Chinese cabinet. Crafted from a mix of boxwood, hardwood, and ebony, it is inlaid with bone, and was made in China in the early 20th century.
The very top of the cabinet is crafted in the shape of a pagoda roof, with roof ridges and etched panels. It is surmounted by a pair of stylised dolphins, and features too flanking fret-cut panels to the sides. The central elements depicts three immortals in relief, with the roof surmounted by a dragon. The door reveals a drawer and ten compartments, with the base revealing an open-work drawer, and four further compartments.
Raised on cabriole legs, extensively decorated with dragons, bats, fish, birds, and flowers, it is a remarkable storage piece, with exceptional Chinese craftsmanship, guaranteed to make a stunning addition to the interior of the right collector. -
