Description
This original provincial cabinet was crafted in France in the late 1800s as a "garde manger" for storing food prior to having electricity. The side and two front doors are fitted with screened panels that create a light, airy display while the original screen provided ventilation typical of the period to keep away pests and allow for items to stay cool. Screens have been replaced over time. The interior offers five fixed shelves ideal for display or storage; the cabinet’s narrow footprint makes it well suited to hallways, kitchens, or dining rooms. It is in good vintage condition with expected surface wear, paint loss, and a distressed patina consistent with age and use. Structurally sound and stable; working hardware and solid legs and body.
Origin: France
Period: Late 19th century
• Ideal as a pantry cabinet, display piece, or decorative storage in both eclectic contemporary and traditional settings. A real conversation starter.
• The cabinet’s authentic distressed finish and original details make it a standout example of French provincial utility furniture. -
