This Italian walnut commode displays the refined proportions and
ornamental restraint characteristic of the Louis XVI period. The piece features three generous drawers accented with brass hardware and decorative inlays, supported on gracefully curved cabriole legs with carved shell details at the base. Circa 1790, this work reflects the neoclassical sensibilities that dominated late 18th-century Italian furniture making. The restrained carving and symmetrical arrangement of brass fittings showcase the regional preference for elegant simplicity over the ornate rococo designs of earlier decades.
