Description
Mid-19th century Georgian style mahogany knee hole desk in very nice original condition. The case having a single top drawer with a knee hole center flanked by three by three drawers and a center hidden door in the knee hole area. The whole on bracket feet.

Because the period occurred both in the British colonies in America as well as in Britain, the Georgian aesthetic is rather variable, but generally exhibits many of the canonical facets of neoclassical design, such as overarching symmetry, clean lines and classical Greek and Roman themes and motifs. Georgian decorative arts are particularly recognizable and desirable, and include the eloquent pottery designs by Josiah Wedgwood, and the exquisite craftsmanship and silhouettes of Thomas Chippendale, Thomas Sheraton and William Kent. Ultimately, Georgian pieces convey a sense of refined formality and sophisticated comfort -
