Description
An exceptional example of California modern design, this Milo Baughman for Glenn of California credenza showcases the designer’s talent for balancing clean architectural lines with unexpected moments of color and warmth. Crafted in richly figured walnut, the cabinet is distinguished by its beautifully sculpted tambour doors, which glide effortlessly to reveal a thoughtfully designed interior featuring striking original reddish-orange drawers that remain in remarkable, like-new condition.
Acquired directly from the original owner’s family, this piece has been exceptionally well preserved. The warm walnut grain has developed a beautiful natural glow, while the vibrant lacquered drawer fronts provide a bold yet sophisticated contrast—a signature mid-century design element that gives the cabinet its unmistakable personality.
Behind the smoothly operating tambour doors are three spacious drawers, an upper organizer shelf, and generous storage for everything from barware and records to office supplies or dining essentials. The solid walnut case rests on elegant tapered legs, giving the cabinet a light, floating appearance while maintaining exceptional stability.
Professionally restored by Hobbs Modern, every detail has been carefully attended to. The tambour doors operate beautifully, the finish highlights the richness of the walnut, and the original lacquered drawers have been preserved to maintain the designer’s original vision.
Whether used as a credenza, bar cabinet, media console, or statement storage piece, this Glenn of California cabinet embodies the timeless craftsmanship and sculptural simplicity that have made Milo Baughman’s work increasingly sought after by collectors.
Why We Love It
This piece perfectly captures the optimism of mid-century California design. From the mesmerizing rhythm of the tambour doors to the unexpected burst of original reddish-orange lacquer inside, every detail was designed to delight the owner each time the cabinet is opened. Finding an example that retains its vibrant original drawer color, operates this smoothly, and comes directly from the original owner’s family is increasingly rare.
