Description
A refined expression of Brazilian mid-century modernism, this exceptional sideboard was produced by Novo Rumo in the 1950s and exemplifies the era’s mastery of materiality, proportion, and structural elegance. Defined by its striking interplay of richly figured jacarandá rosewood, solid brass detailing, and a floating glass top, the design balances visual lightness with architectural presence.
The sculptural framework reveals a thoughtful engineering language rarely encountered in Brazilian furniture of the period. Broad rosewood supports showcase dramatic cathedral grain patterns and deep tonal variation, while the exposed brass stretchers introduce a sophisticated industrial character, creating a compelling dialogue between warmth and precision. The transparent glass surface enhances the composition, allowing the craftsmanship and construction to remain fully visible from every angle.
Expertly refinished, the jacarandá has been restored to highlight its remarkable depth, movement, and natural luster while preserving the integrity and authenticity of the original material. The brass retains a rich patina consistent with age, and the glass has been newly replaced.
More than a functional furnishing, this piece reflects the optimistic design ethos that defined postwar Brazilian modernism—where innovative construction, noble materials, and sculptural form were seamlessly integrated into everyday life. A rare and highly collectible example of period Brazilian design, equally suited as a sideboard, console, or statement accent within both contemporary and historically informed interiors. -
