Description
This rare sideboard or bar cabinet, attributed to Otto Schulz and produced by Boet in Sweden during the 1940s, is a striking example of Scandinavian modernism marked by refined craftsmanship and bold material contrasts. The cabinet features doors veneered in zebrano wood, showcasing a dramatic striped grain pattern that stands out against a black lacquered frame. When opened, the interior reveals a deep red lacquer finish, creating a vivid visual contrast and highlighting adjustable shelving designed for versatile storage.
Elevated on a sturdy black lacquered wood base, the sideboard maintains a sculptural presence while prioritizing functionality. The inclusion of mirrored glass inside the cabinet, along with a glass top, adds an elegant reflective quality that enhances the piece’s luxurious appeal. The doors, which open outward, are fitted with discreet metal handles that preserve the clean, geometric lines characteristic of Schulz’s aesthetic.
Otto Schulz was known for his innovative ability to blend decorative richness with practicality, often employing rich wood veneers alongside high-contrast lacquer surfaces to achieve visually compelling yet functional furniture.
Measuring 100 centimeters in width, 34 centimeters in depth, and 81 centimeters in height, this sideboard embodies the timeless elegance and sophisticated design language of mid-century Scandinavian furniture.
