Description
A pair of Italian painted bedside chests, each with two drawers and raised on tapered square-section legs. The tops are painted to simulate marble, with ochre and sienna-toned veining. The drawer fronts and side panels are decorated in faux bois with trompe-l’œil framing in contrasting tones. Each drawer is centered with a keyhole escutcheon and bordered by stylized corner motifs. The side panels are similarly treated, framed with linear borders and reserved painted floral flourishes. The drawers retain later patterned paper linings with working locks and keys. Wear, surface irregularities, and pigment loss consistent with age and use. Italy circa 1850.
