Description
Pair of early 19th-century carved wood candlesticks, painted black and parcel-silver-gilt, adapted as table lamps. The baluster-form standards rise from triform bases with canted corners, detailed with inset panels of incised lattice decoration. The whole raised on scroll feet. Minor wear and rubbing to painted and gilded surfaces consistent with age. Period Italian, circa 1820
The candlesticks rest on contemporary clear acrylic plinths fitted to ebonized hexagonal bases. The lamp fittings rise from the rear in a museum-mount style, preserving the integrity of the antique objects without drilling. Fitted with custom conical shades with tape trim.
