Italian Mid-Century Modern Neoclassical Walnut Sideboards by Paolo Buffa

$ 22,000
  • Description
    2 Rare, Italian Modern Neoclassical Sideboards or Buffets in Walnut with Brass Details by Paolo Buffa circa 1946 - 1955. These elegant mid-century cabinets feature an exceptional profile as they stand on tall, fluted and tapered legs. The overall form is sculpted with the 2 sides being curved and vaulted inward toward the center. The front doors panels are channeled and fluted to provide architectural relief and rivet the eyes to their sensuous quality. The interior of the doors is likewise finished in a similar channeled manner but with a slight change of hue in the wood which provides an additional compliment to the pieces. The legs are blocked with feature subtle rosettes and the tapered legs end in brass sabots. Interior shelving adds to the functionality of the pieces along with 2 pull out drawers Original keys add to the authenticity and feel. The pieces are Priced and Sold Individually.

    Paolo Buffa and Gio Ponti were the most important creators in the late forties in Italian design. Buffa was able to combine neoclassical forms and elements with a spare, modern design. His works have enduring value. Additional References: Andre Arbus, Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann, Jean-Michel Frank, Oswaldo Borsani, Ico Parisi, Jacques Adnet,

T. Thomas Gargiulo came from a dual background as a Ph.D. in Psychology with extensive training in Art History and Anthropology to form Thomas Gallery in downtown Manhattan in 1997 to balance intellectual with design pursuits. Since its inception the gallery has seen decorative arts as a vibrant representation of human culture of each age and as a portal to understanding it. P: 917.434.4032 E: thomasgalleryltd@gmail.com
